father and a French-Russian wife. He was employed as consul with the French government.
Her father was a painter Eugene Klementieff. Because it sounds similar to the
Korean words for "spring" or "tiger", her parents gave
their daughter the name Pom. Klementieff was an American citizen for a single
year. Her family had traveled extensively due to her father's work. Prior to
moving to France the family lived in Japan as well as on the Ivory Coast.
Klementieff's father, who died from cancer at age 5 was also her mother.
Additionally, she suffered from schizophrenia and was unable to care for her
children. Klementieff was raised with her aunt and paternal uncle. Her uncle,
whom she said in her own words as "like her first father," died on
Klementieff’s 18th birthday. The older brother of her was killed seven years
later. This time, it happened on her 25th. Klementieff was able to briefly go
to law school following the passing of her uncle, but she was not able to find
this job path attractive. She also worked as a waitress and saleswoman in
France. She began acting at age 19 in the Cours Florent drama school in Paris.
It was only two months in her studies when she won a theater contest that
granted the opportunity to take two years of free classes with some of the most
renowned teachers in the school. Klementieff was the first person to perform
professionally in the independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the
step-daughter of the main character, Catherine Deneuve. The filming process was
a three-day process. Klementieff was to push another person down a staircase
however she fell down. Gael Mostl kept the shot in the final film. Her first
role as a lead actor was in Loup (2009), a French film that follows a tribe of
reindeer herders located in the Siberian mountains. In the course of filming,
she stayed in a campthat was a few hours away from the nearest village where
temperatures dropped below zero.
